How to Fight Temptation

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (Ephesians 6:11)

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8)

An old hymn asks why the saint is often tried and tested while the ungodly and evildoer seems to never be disturbed:

Tempted and tried we’re oft made to wonder,
Why it should be thus all the day long.
While there are others living about us,
Never molested though in the wrong.

The hymn writer offers this consolation:

Farther along we’ll know more about it
Farther along we’ll understand why
Cheer up my brother; live in the sunshine
We’ll understand it all by and by.
